ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
EZRA FURMAN formed their first band, Ezra Furman and the Harpoons, while still a student at Tufts University in 2006. Since 2011 Ezra has released a steady stream of solo albums, including the “Self-Discovery” trilogy (2012-2015), the “Anti-Fascist” trilogy (2018-2022), and their latest album, “Goodbye Small Head.” In 2018 Ezra published a book on Lou Reed’s “Transformer” album with 33 ⅓.
DAVID CHAMPAGNE is best known as one of the co-founders of Treat Her Right, with Mark Sandman, Jim Fitting, and Billy Conway, in 1985. More recently he has released several recordings with his own project, Agnostic Gospel.
BOB PERNICE joined his brother Joe in the Pernice Brothers beginning in 1998, after the breakup of Joe’s previous band, the Scud Mountain Boys. The Pernice Brothers’ debut album, “Overcome By Happiness,” came out that year on Sub Pop.
RYAN WALSH formed the band Hallelujah the Hills in 2005. Over the years the band has participated in a number of creative collaborations, with Titus Andronicus, the Silver Jews, the author Jonathan Lethem, and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. In 2025 they released their most ambitious project yet: the four-album, 52-song set called “Deck.” Walsh is also the author of the acclaimed 2018 book “Astral Weeks: A Secret History of 1968.”
VERONICA ROBLES is a cultural icon for Latinos in Boston. A female mariachi singer and Latin American folkloric dancer, she is the founder of the Veronica Robles Cultural Center in East Boston and a regular performer in civic celebrations.
LINDA VIENS formed her latest band, Girl With a Hawk, in 2021. Coming out of art school in the 1980s, she joined her first band, Children of Paradise, as a drummer – with no experience. Other bands have included WItch Doctor, the funk orchestra Crown Electric Company, and Angeline. She was a founding member of the Boston Rock Opera and has worked with Mark Sandman, Richie Parsons, Asa Brebner, and many more.
Guest speaker KAREN PITA LOOR (“KPL”) is a Clinical Professor of Law at Boston University specializing in policing and protest.
