ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
After playing in punk and alternative groups in the 1990s, TED LEO formed his band the Pharmacists in Washington D.C. As a solo artist, he’s been a longtime touring partner with Aimee Mann. He joined the legendary Gang of Four on guitar for their ongoing farewell tour, which began in 2025.
Keyboardist (and indispensable Paid Protester) MAGEN TRACY is the namesake of her own band, Magen Tracy & the Missed Connections. A three-time Boston Music Award nominee, Magen is music director of the all-star, all-women Band of Their Own (Kay Hanley, Tanya Donelly, Jen Trynin, Gail Greenwood), a mainstay of the annual Hot Stove Cool Music benefit shows.
BETH KAPLAN recently returned to making music after decades away from the stage. She was a co-founder (with Judy Grunwald and Susan Merriam) of the beloved 1980s Boston band Salem 66. CHRIS BROKAW has forged a long history in indie rock, co-founding the bands Codeine and Come and helping Liz Phair launch her career. Most recently he recorded “The Undone Is Done Again,” a uniquely modern take on medieval music, with Tanya Donelly.
Guitarist, keyboardist, and singer ANTHONY KACZYNSKI began his career in Detroit with the band Figures on a Beach before moving to Boston in the 1990s. Following several years with his power-pop band Fireking, he joined Stephin Merritt’s Magnetic Fields, with whom he continues to tour and record.
ERICA MANTONE, a frequent Boston Music Award nominee and a core member of the Paid Protesters, is a producer of Boston Rock Opera and the festival Bust Out Boston: A Celebration of Womxn in the Boston Music Scene. She released her debut EP, “I May Have Asked for This,” in 2022.
KAMEELAH, a leading voice in corporate social responsibility, is also a powerful voice for the Paid Protesters. She debuted one of her first songwriting efforts, “Promise” (co-written with Danielle Miraglia and Scott Damgaard), at the Which Side? show in June 2026.
“DAMAGED GODS” are a group of ringers playing the music of one of England’s longest-running politically motivated post-punk bands. (See above.)
Former New York City mayoral candidate MAYA WILEY is a lawyer, professor, and civil rights activist. Former counsel to New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, she currently serves as president and CEO of the Leadership COnference on Civil and Human Rights, which was founded in 1950.
